SchoolJam Final 2007 / 2008: March 14, 2008 CMF, Level 2, Room Harmonie, 6.00 p.m. And the winner is Glory of Joann Expert jury chooses the winners of the sixth edition of the German school-band competition Germany's eight best school bands live at the International Musikmesse in Frankfurt on 14 March
Every year, the absolute highlight of the SchoolJam competition is the finale at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt. The enthusiastic audience at the Congress Centre Messe Frankfurt had the chance to see and hear eight groups perform live. The eight bands taking part in the grand finale qualified on the basis of 15 nation-wide preliminary rounds, internet voting via the VIVA, respect and Spiegel Online portals and selection by a jury of experts. For this great achievement, the bands' schools will receive valuable prizes of music electronics and music equipment for the coming generation of pupils. On the evening of 14 March, however, the eight finalists – Gravel Pit (Freilassing), Rogue Wave (Zwiesel), The x Plode (Schwäbisch Gmünd), Corben Dallas (Berlin), The Humus (Frankfurt), Glory of Joann (Eschwege), Future Brugsen (Herzberg) and Eva Croissant (Karlsruhe) had only one aim: to win the first prize – an appearance as the opening act at the 'Rock am Ring' concert. The second main prize is a trip to the American NAMM music fair in Nashville, Texas in July 2008 and to perform live on stage there. A top-flight expert jury of German musicians, experts from the music sector and renowned journalists was deeply impressed by the commitment and achievements of the young people. And this made it all the more difficult for Kosho ('Söhne Mannheims'), Dieter Falk (producer of 'Popstars' television show), Götz von Sydow (producer), Florian Erhart ('Gitarre & Bass' magazine), Bettina Schwarz ('Aktion Mensch' charity), Manfred Staiger (HR3 radio), Udo Dahmen (German Music Council), Mike 'Gomezz' Gommeringer ('Reamonn'), Boris Janowski (VIVA), Angelo Kelly (musician), Franky Ziegler ('Panik') and André Lieberberg to decide on the two winners. Following intensive deliberations, 'Glory of Joann' was declared the winner of SchoolJam 2007/2008. So that the other finalists did not leave empty handed, the jury once again awarded a special prize this year: the coveted DFJW SchoolJam special prize of the German-French Youth Office. This prize went to The Humus who will be going on a one-week tour of the South of France and be able to gain experience by giving several performances there. Special guests of the evening were 'Revolverheld' who set the audience rocking with a great performance. For all school bands who did not make it to the final round this year, the motto is carry on and prepare for the next SchoolJam in 2008/2009. The SchoolJam 2007 / 2008 Finalists: |
